Pot Luck by Host Families

Well, this is the first time I have got a host family other than my own parents. My host family parents are Bob Swatson, Denise Swatson while their children are Justin, Maggie, Michael, Stephanie and 2 others whom I cant remember their names because they were absent for the pot luck. There are 4 other international students joined me in this family too: Windy (China), Cheng Khang (Malaysia), Mary Anne (Malaysia), and Ian (Malaysia). Our host family is the largest among all other familes in the hall, we have 11 siblings in total. My family is extremely friendly in the way they talk and how they have been treating us. There is a traditional dancing performance by Amy Soon too, it was great. I actually seen them practicing and this is their result:

After the program for the day has ended, Denise gave us winter coats, boots and blankets, for free. So I got my first winter coat in life. =)

Mooncake Pot Luck

Hosted by Kenneth Lai and house mates, assisted by cheng khang, hou lai, mary anne, me and some others. By the wording of the title everyone knows that we did celebrate moon cake festival here in US. It was an extremely fun day. Most of us cooked and everyone gathered at around 10 pm (it was so late because of me and mary anne) and the most delicious food served. Me, Mary Anne and Peik Hong were late because we just came back from a conference in Kansas City then we rushed to cook our part of food. Cooking potatoes and mash potatoes were really time consuming, really apology for 11 others who waited for us for more than 30 mins. The dinner consisted of muchroom chickens, Kebab, vege, red beans soup, potatoes (i cook one), mash potatoes (mary anne), fried rice, tons of steam rice, ice cream and water melon (cut by Jun-Yi). It was a wonderful dinner, we enjoyed all the food and we were actually playing Mafia all night long. It was really a cool night and I hope this kind of event will continue going on. It was a tiring day too because I got up at 4.45 am and we got back here in Des Moines around 7.45 pm. check out on the video clip below.

Merdeka Countdown at USA

The title sounds a bit cool right? Different time zone yet the Malaysians at Drake can follow some kinda merdeka countdown system. There are more than 100 Malaysians at my University, so the celebration was like kinda fun plus there are always food and drinks provided. There was an election for "Junior Rep" among the new Malaysians at Drake (including me), but I lost the election. I was not sad at all. Hope you enjoy the video clip below.

BAT in my house!!

There is something unusual that has been going on in my house at night> The BATman Begins. It terrified me, and everyone else like Cheng Khang, Kenneth, Tuan Khoon, Brandon, Peik Hong, BUT not Mary Anne. It has been flying around my house almost every night when i first arrived here in Iowa. There must be a loop hole somewhere in my house (which i found it few days ago). It was actually the window's problem, it was not properly shut. Kenneth did experiment on the BAT by using Onions. It seemed that the bat does not give a "dam" on Kenneth's onions. Check it out in the video below.

Few nights later, there was another bat in my house. It was really scary, I cant describe well here, check it out in the video below.

Fortunately, the problem has been solved. Phew...

ISA Welcome Back Party

ISA (International Student Association) of Drake hosted a Welcome Back Party for seniors last Friday night. But the objective of the party was open for mainly international students like me. There are quite amount of people there, it was a fun night, and also a night where i can see mostly all of the Malaysians in Drake. Actually i wanted to go for the free food only, but the food turned out to be pizza and cookies, sad to say. However, as i said, it was quite fun. The first activity was musical chair, and i lost, for all 2 rounds. Next activity was couple dancing competition! It is the nicest part of the party. Mary Anne and Jun Yi danced well and they made half way to the final. Their dance was nice but a bit of funny though, watch the video below and you will know what I meant.

Then, Jun Yi got exhausted. Someone (an American) out of nowhere suddenly interrupted the competition and wanted to join, so he replaced Jun Yi. and they managed to make it to finals, together with another couple from Malaysia. Both of their steps were good, i can say. Check out on the video below.

The winning team goes to Mary Anne and Unknown. As you can see they are both quite good, but the majority cheers went to Mary Anne. All 4 of them got 4 cups (cups for drinking water not something else) for the well performance.

Something that I have been hiding all the while, this is my blog but i have not mention any about me, i am a noob dancer. This party is just like clubbing, the only difference is that there is not alcoholic drinks because we are not allowed to drink due to under age. So we all just dance according to the music. I can get the rhythm of the music perfectly, but my body does not seemed to be cooperating. Or else, the partner for Mary Anne will be me and we will be the one who won the competition. How sad is it huh...
